Roman Catholic Debates on Sedevacantism

(posted 2/27/15)

As an Evangelical I believe Roman Catholicism is wrong on many doctrinal issues and is not the one true Church as it claims to be. Here are some debates by professed Catholics on the topic of Sedevacantism. Sedevacantism is the view "held by a minority of traditionalist Catholics, that the present occupant of the papal see is not truly pope and that, for lack of a valid pope, the see has been vacant since the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958." Sedevacantists believe this because modern Catholicism has proclaimed doctrines which seem to contradict older Catholic teaching.

As an Evangelical, I believe these contradictions are real and that they therefore provide additional evidence that modern Catholicism is not Biblical. Of course, this doesn't (of itself) disprove the view of those who maintain only the older Catholic teaching. For that, other traditional Protestant arguments need to be employed.

Alleged Visions, Dreams and Visitations of Jesus to Muslims

There's a worldwide phenomenon of Muslims converting to Christianity because of alleged visions, dreams or visitations of Jesus to them. This is such a common phenomenon that it's being reported by many sources including Christian organizations and denominations which are unrelated to each other. Some of these denominations and organizations are cessationist in their theology and so would naturally shy away from mentioning such occurrences because it conflicts with their theology. But the phenomenon is so widespread that it cannot be ignored.

As a continuationist myself, nothing in my theology would preclude the possibility that some of these alleged dreams and visions are genuinely of Jesus Christ manifesting Himself to such Muslims in order to get them to convert to Christianity by believing in Him (Jesus) as the Son of God and their personal Savior and Lord.

Obviously, some alleged encounters with Jesus will be made up and fraudulent. Also from my continuationist Christian perspective, some other encounters might be genuinely supernatural but not be encounters with the real Jesus but rather a demonic counterfeit. Since the Bible refers to false Christs/Messiahs as well as teaching that Satan (and his demonic minions) can disguise themselves as angels of light (2 Cor. 11:14-15).

There are many reports of this phenomenon happening in the news and on YouTube. Obviously there are better ways to document the phenomenon, but the plethora of videos on YouTube just goes to show how common and widespread the phenomenon is. But first here are some articles that acknowledge that such things are being claimed among Muslims and in the Muslim world :
